The Process Engineer performs a broad range of cross-functional professional duties across the organization serving Ferriot core business and AOBP. The primary focus of this role includes, but is not limited to, (1) Process refinement, development and documentation; (2) Training and mentoring technical staff including Process Technicians, Mold Setters, Material Handlers, etc.; (3) Acquiring and analyzing data concerning operations and the technical staff, with focus on removing costs from manufacturing molding operations and streamlining processes to optimize production; (4) Utilizing data-driven methodologies to assist in troubleshooting and resolving business and technical process issues; (5) Functioning as the point person for leading the department into lean manufacturing and implementation; improving profitability.
Key competencies include:
Manager of Molding Operations
Education: B.S. in Plastics / Polymer / Mechanical or related engineering discipline, certified training in scientific molding processes. Professional certification(s) in quality, lean, Six Sigma, etc. a plus.
Knowledge: Must have successfully implemented and/or maintained a lean manufacturing environment within an injection molding setting. Must have knowledge of engineering resins along with a working knowledge of injection molding equipment, mold operations, mold set-ups, plastic resins, and mixing procedures/measurements. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
Experience: Must have a minimum of 10 years of advanced injection molding, tooling, automation and assembly experience. Engineering experience and background along with leadership abilities.
Independent Judgment: Constant. Performs duties with little supervision, regularly makes independent judgments. Makes independent decisions when required as to equipment, production and people problems.
Quality: Follow regulatory, company, and departmental procedures implicitly. In the execution of the job function the Process Engineer must focus on the quality aspect of all activities. Doing the job right the first time and in a timely manner is important to meeting expectations. It should always be a goal to achieve zero defects on each job. Material loss on start-ups as well as production rejects must be minimized. Quality product delivered to our customers on time and within budget is a priority.
Physical Exertion: Routinely lifts 25 lbs or more. Occasionally requires lifting of heavy items; job requires being on feet most of the shift, bends, twists, stoops, walks, lifts and extensively uses hands, wrists and shoulders, legs, waist, and back; uses hand/eye coordination to remove mold, and operate a tow motor; has to work with and around heat and dusts; must be able to exert enough pressure to tighten mold bolts, connections and hook-ups.
Tools: Ratchets, knife(s), screw driver, hammer, wrenches, pry bars, molds, cans/drums, mixing tumblers, parts scale, staple machine, mills, bolts, clippers, pliers, sanders, funnels, channel locks, overhead crane, paper, markers, pencils, written policies and procedures, labor contract, conveyor ramps, brushes, vacuum loaders, tow motors, tape machines, band machines, propane tanks, vacuums, brooms, locks and tag-outs, absorbents, rags gloves, dust masks, glasses/goggles, ladders, personal computer, network system, calculators and micrometers.
Attendance: Must be in attendance on a regular, full time basis and conform to company attendance policies. Due to the leadership and directional nature of this position, visibility and interaction across teams is extremely important. The Process Engineer must be available and willing to work other shifts and overtime as necessary/required.
